April Holzer MFTI ( CELL) 801-330-7176
I completed my Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2012 at
Argosy University, Hawaii and a Bachelor of Science degree in Interpersonal
Communications from University of Utah in 2003. I am a Licensed Associate
Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Utah # 8650297-3904. I am also
a pre clinical member of American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy
(AAMFT) and Utah Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (UAMFT) (UAMFT)
Utah Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
I completed my internship at Hospice Hawaii where I specialized in crisis
intervention, grief/bereavement, end of life issues and loss. My experience with
Hospice gave me the opportunity to work with a wide range of clinical problems in
addition to a diverse population in terms of cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
My clients included families, couples, children, individual adults and several groups.
I am an empathetic, culturally competent practitioner – I use a relational framework
which develops awareness of multigenerational influences, family relational
interactions, and the process of developing emotional independence through
individuation (consciously choosing how we interact with others instead of
emotionally reacting without forethought).
My approach is based on establishing a genuine, trusting relationship with clients.
This enables my clients to express their thoughts and feelings without fear of
judgment and this leads to greater insight and positive life changes.
I am very comfortable working with the LGBTQ community and alternate lifestyles
in general. I also enjoy working with women and concerns particular to women,
from adolescence to old age, such as body image, care taking, career and family
balance, emotional abuse and self-care.
